To the Esteemed Faculty-Electorate of the Polytechnic,

It is with great enthusiasm and confidence that I offer my unwavering support for Professor Juan Carlos De Martin’s candidacy for the rectorship of the Polytechnic of Torino. Having observed his exceptional talents and contributions over the many years of our acquaintance, I firmly believe that Professor De Martin embodies the qualities of leadership and strategic vision to carry your esteemed institution into the future — above his gift as an organizational leader. He gets good things done.

From our initial meeting in 2005 at a conference he organized, Professor De Martin has consistently showcased an extraordinary capacity for conceptualizing and orchestrating significant university projects. What began as relatively modest initiatives like that early conference has gradually evolved to ambitious and meticulously organized large-scale endeavors. His portfolio boasts an impressive array of accomplishments, not only including well-received publications, including a book on the future University – which he was twice invited to present at Harvard University – and innovative course designs, but also the successful establishment and management of university initiatives, ranging from his founding and leadership of the Nexa Center for Internet & Society back in 2006 to the stunning scope and success, still unfolding, of the Biennale Tecnologia for the Polytechnic and for the city of Torino. In 2012 he was also a founding member of the Global Network of Internet & Society centers, a worldwide initiative incubated at Harvard University, which he coordinated between 2014 and 2016. Professor De Martin’s instrumental role in these endeavors has not only demonstrated his intellectual acumen but also his adeptness in running things.

What sets Professor De Martin apart as a candidate is not solely his expertise in digital technologies, but his proven ability as a maestro of university administration. His decision to pursue the rectorship signifies not just his competence, but an ardent belief in his capability and mission to steer the Polytechnic of Torino towards a future of global distinction.

Sincerely,
